Will gather public opinion about candidates ahead of Assembly polls: Yeddyurappa

State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa said the party would conduct a baseline survey about six months prior to the Assembly elections and gather public opinion about the candidates in each segment. Based on public opinion, candidates would be chosen, he said.

Addressing a party workers’ meet here on Monday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the BJP would not compromise on the merit of the candidates while selecting them for each constituency. The party is determined to come to power in the next general elections, he said.

“The abysmal performance of the Congress in the past couple of years and internal bickering within the party was a blessing in disguise to the BJP,” he said.

The party will field strong candidates who enjoy goodwill in their places so that the BJP comes to power with a thumping majority. He said he would visit all Assembly constituencies in the next one-and-half years and during his tour, apart from strengthening the party, he would prepare a list of probables for the elections.

The BJP leader expressed concern over the defeat of party candidates in the Legislative Council elections. He said the BJP got just eight seats in the zilla panchayat elections in Mysuru and 13 seats in the Mysuru City Corporation limits. He called upon the party workers to shed differences and work united to strengthen the party.
