Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has proposed to provide half-an-hour free Wi-Fi internet facility for tourists visiting Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebid – three major tourist attractions of Hassan district. BSNL has consulted officers of the Tourism Department and the Archaeological Survey of India in this connection.
Safety addressed
O. Prashanth, Deputy General Manager of BSNL (Hassan Circle), on Friday, told The Hindu that the ASI had sought certain clarifications regarding the safety of archaeological structures.
“We have conveyed to them that the facility will not affect the structures in any manner. If things go well, we will have the system in place in the next three months,” he said.
The tourists can make use of half-an-hour free internet facility during their visit to these places. If they require Wi-Fi for longer duration, they could avail of the service by purchasing coupons available at designated counters. Shravanabelagola attracts lakhs of tourists every year. BSNL has already launched this service in Agra.
