When distance education paid dividends

Parvathi Rangareddy of Aurad in Bidar district consciously chose distance education to pursue higher studies.

For, she wanted to spend more time preparing for her dream — the civil services examination.

She opted for Karnataka State Open University to pursue M.A. in public administration. Her efforts paid big dividends as she bagged two gold medals and a cash prize, besides being adjudged a topper among women candidates at the convocation.

A graduate from Gulbarga University, Ms. Parvathi, who is currently preparing for the KAS examinations in Bengaluru, said, “I am now preparing for the gazetted probationers’ examination. I purposely chose to obtain my PG through distance education as I will get more time to prepare for my primary goal.”

For Jyothi H., a primary school teacher, Ph.D. and a job in the State government is her ultimate goal. A winner of two gold medals in M.A. Economics, Ms. Jyothi said, “I could not believe it when the university authorities called me to convey that I won two gold medals. I was overjoyed and felt proud of myself.”
