The special investigation team probing the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh has brought accused Parashuram Waghmore to the jungles of Khanapur, bordering Karnataka and Goa, for investigation. The team arrived on Thursday and is expected to stay for a few days in the district.

The team is testing claims by some of the accused that Waghmore was trained in shooting and the use of guns in the area.

He led the team to some clearings in the jungles where he allegedly was trained in shooting. The first round of training was with air guns. He may have been trained in the use of real guns at least for a few days. The SIT wants to confirm these two factors, said a source in the police department. Officials believe the visit may also provide leads about the others involved in the killing.
