The State government is working to promote tourism in the State and the latest effort is the constitution of a vision group. Minister for Tourism and Higher Education R.V. Deshpande said in Bangalore on Tuesday that the former Infosys financial boss T.V. Mohandas Pai will head the group.

Speaking after releasing a book on the government’s achievements in 100 days, Mr. Deshpande said that the vision group will look into all aspects of developing tourism in the State, including eco and medical tourism, among others.

Mr. Deshpande said that the 319 tourist destinations in the State will be developed in a phased manner, with focus on prime destinations such as Jog Falls, Mysore, Srirangapatna, Nandi Hills and Hampi. With reference to historical sites being used for film shooting, he said that precautionary measures would be taken in consultation with the Archaeological Survey of India while giving permission for film shooting.

The Minister added that hoardings are being put up at international airports in Bangalore, Hyderabad and New Delhi to attract tourists.
