Rudrapatnam, a small village in Arakalgud taluk on the banks of the Cauvery, seems like any other quiet village. But, it has a glorious musical heritage that is quite unmatched.

The village has contributed many Carnatic greats, including the late R.K. Srikantan and R.K. Suryanarayana.

Perhaps it is its musical lineage that has led it to hold a three-day annual music festival for the last 14 years.

Concerts galore

This year’s edition began on Friday, with a concert by Vidwan Kumar and Vidwan Kartik.

Vidwan R.K. Padmanabha, founder of the Rudrapatna Sangeethotsava Samiti Trust, said the aim is to attract the younger generation to classical arts.

“Our responsibility is to attract the youth to indigenous art forms.

The music festival organised by the Trust is one such effort,” he said. The event is a platform for both senior artistes and newcomers.
