Want to see the royal city of Mysuru up-close from atop Chamundi Hills? Tourism Department has developed a gallery atop the hills (near the road leading to the Nandi statue) for viewing the city and its stunning heritage buildings starting with the iconic palace from fixed a high-powered binocular.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the gallery on Thursday.
The department is setting up another viewing gallery near the Nandi statue with a similar high-powered binocular. The earlier plan of installing telescope was dropped and binoculars were installed as a tourist attraction.
Deputy Director of Tourism H.P. Janardhan told The Hindu that the other viewing gallery will be ready soon.
Meanwhile, the Gaali Mantap or the watch tower on the road leading to the temple atop the hills is being fenced for conserving the ancient structure, which in the recent years was facing vandalism. The work is being carried out by the Public Works Department.
The mantap was earlier identified for installing a high-power telescope. It is also a popular film shooting spot.
