Kodagu district in-charge Secretary B.R. Jayaramaraje Urs has called upon officials at the district and taluk levels to fully utilise the funds received under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGREGA).

He was reviewing the progress achieved by various Government departments for the year 2009-10 here on Friday, a press release said. Spending funds under the MGREGA would also result in proper utilisation of manpower in the district, Mr. Urs said.

If funds were not used utilised, the release of the next instalment could be difficult, he added.

Mr. Urs said he was aware that fertilizer and seeds were short in supply in 2009-10. The situation should not recur in 2010-11, he added.

He called upon the Department of Agriculture to distribute fertilizer and seeds directly or though cooperatives. He asked the Joint Director of the department K.R. Krishnaiah to ensure enough stock for the next season.

Mr. Urs said that there were 135 ineligible persons among the 6,026 Anna Antyodaya cardholders in Kodagu district. They should be included in the BPL list, he said.

He instructed officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure that ration depots opened in time and catered to the needs of the people. He was informed by Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwatha Narayana Gowda that the drinking water situation in the district remained satisfactory with no major crisis reported.

Electricity

The Executive Engineer of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation told Mr. Urs that electrification of hamlets under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyudeekaran Yojna had begun at 71 places in the district.
