The University of Mysore, which recently celebrated the centenary year and hosted the Indian Science Congress in 2016, is in the news for the wrong reason as it has decided to withhold the results of the Ph.D entrance examination for Political Science conducted recently following allegations that the questions were directly lifted from a website.
In-charge Vice-Chancellor Dayanand Mane told The Hindu that the issue was brought to his notice by the students who had appeared for the entrance examination.
The students pointed out that 18 of the 50 objective type questions were lifted from a particular website known to provide sample questions with answers besides solving question papers of various competitive examination.
He said the university has no role in setting the question paper which is outsourced but the examiner concerned should have restructured the questions and applied his mind.
'Directed registrar'
“I have already directed the registrar to order for an inquiry into the allegations and ascertain the veracity of it,” said Prof. Mane.
“Till we get to the depth of the issue, the results will not be announced and will be withheld so as to provide justice for all students,” he added.
Prof. Mane said those responsible for setting the question paper would be blacklisted from taking up future assignments of the University of Mysore.
The question paper pattern of the entrance examination entailed two parts of 50 marks each. While “Part A” contained 50 objective type questions of one mark each, “Part B” had essay type or short answer question for 50 marks and the examination was conducted by the university on October 29 at its Mysuru and Bengaluru centres.
