A 28-year-old undertrial allegedly ended his life by jumping from the third floor of the Principal District and Sessions court in Tumakuru on Saturday.

The deceased — Chandraiah, 28, who hailed from Adalagere in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district — had been in judicial custody from June 1, 2017, for attacking a six-year-old boy with a lethal weapon.

On Saturday afternoon, he was escorted from Tumakuru District Central Prison and produced before the court. While returning from the court hall, he pushed past the police personnel and jumped off the third floor of the building.

Superintendent of Police Divya Gopinath said Chandraiah was immediately shifted to the Tumakuru district government hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

A case of custodial death has been registered in Tumakuru Town police station.
