Two-day mega job fair begins in Mysuru

Jobseekers thronged the Maharaja College Grounds in the city on Saturday which is hosting the two-day “Udyog Mela” (job fair).

As many as 200 companies, including some big names, have put up their stalls at the job fair and registered the candidates for giving placements based on their qualification and skills.

District in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa inaugurated the mela. The mela is jointly organised by the district administration, Janaspandana Trust, the Department of Employment and Training and the Karnataka State Vocational Training and Skills Development Corporation. M.K. Somashekar, MLA, Vasu, MLA and officials from the departments were present.

In his address, the Minister complimented the organisers for conducting the job mela arguing that occasions like this provide best platforms for the unemployed youth to get jobs suiting their aptitude and skills.

Such job melas bring the job seekers and the employers face-to-face, he said.

Mr. Somashekar, whose trust is a part of the job mela, said companies, including software giant Infosys, are participating in the two-day mela which concludes on Sunday.

Software companies, insurance companies, banks and many big industries are attending the mela.

Another round of screening will be done and the appointment letters will be issued to the selected candidates on Sunday, Mr. Somashekar said.

To a question, Mr. Somashekar said, “We are hopeful of helping over 6,000 candidates get jobs. Candidates even from far away districts had registered and managed to get shortlisted for the jobs. Many candidates belong to Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Hassan, Kodagu and other districts.”

Registration is mandatory for job seekers, he said and added that candidates can register their names for Sunday’s selection on www.myskillpage.com.
