Two persons, who were part of a group of seven students from Mysore, were washed away in the Cauvery in Srirangapatna on Monday. Two others are feared to have also drowned.

While the bodies of M.N. Madan (22) of B.M. Sri Nagar near Metagalli and S. Prasanna (21) of Dharmapura village in Gaddige hobli in Hunsur taluk were traced, those of their friends — Harish (21) from T. Narsipur and S. Sundaresh (21) of Mudabidre in Chikmagalur district — are yet to be recovered.

Mr. Prasanna and Mr. Sundaresh were staying in hostels in Mysore.

The Srirangapatna police suspended the search operations at 7 p.m. because of fading light. According to the police, the tragedy occurred near Nimishambha temple at Ganjam around 3.45 p.m.

Eyewitnesses said the seven youths, final year B.Com students of Maharaja College in Mysore, were swimming when the incident took place.

Three students were lucky to survive, and they are S.N. Punith (21) of B.M. Sri Nagar, T.G. Praveen (22) of T. Narsipur and N.S. Rangaswamy (21) of Ittuvalli village, near T. Narsipur.
