Twin districts get new schemes

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a number of new schemes to be implemented in the twin districts in the State Budget.

Among the demands met is the formation of new taluks. While Vijayapura got seven taluks, Bagalkot got three. These are: Babaleshwar, Devarahipparagi, Tikota, Chadhachan, Kolhar, Nindagundi and Talikot in Vijayapura district, and Guledagudda, Ilkal and Rabakavi-Banahatti in Bagalkot.

The other major project given to Vijayapura is a super-specialty hospital for ailments related to the heart and brain. So far, the people were forced to go to Solapur or Bengaluru for these issues. The government has also announced setting up blood component separator units in district hospitals.

Two new lift irrigation projects to the parched Muddebihal taluk where Nagarabetta Lift Irrigation Project is to be implemented, and to Indi taluk where the Chadachan Lift Irrigation Project is to be implemented, have been announced.

A project titled ‘Belli Shrunga’, covering Badami in Bagalkot and historical places of Vijayapura city, will be implemented to develop tourist spots in North Karnataka.

The budget however remained silent on the formation the Lemon Development Board.

Bagalkot district secured a government medical college. The CM announced the formation of an industrial training centre in Mudhol taluk of Bagalkot district.

Since ₹30 crore has been allotted for cloud seeding in drought-hit districts, these funds could also be used in Vijayapura and Bagalkot which are among the worst drought-affected districts.
