A five-member team comprising officials of the Health Department on Sunday began its probe into the death of a women and others complaining of uneasiness reportedly owing to the reaction of the drug administered at a laparoscopic tubectomy camp held at Gudekote, Kudligi taluk, on Friday.
The team comprised Dr. B.N. Rajani, Deputy Director and Nodal Officer for Ballari, Dr. Renuka, Deputy Director, Bengaluru.
Official sources told The Hindu that the team visited Gudekote and spoke to the patients who had attended the camp and listed for sterilisation.
The team also visited VIMS Hospital in the city where a couple of patients are still undergoing treatment.
It may be mentioned here that 25 persons were chosen for sterilisation and were administered pre-operative medicines (injection). One of the four women, who had undergone sterilisation, and eight others waiting for their turn, complained of uneasiness, sweating and breathlessness.
Jayamma, who was administered pre-operative medicine, had died.
After preliminary investigation, the team was of the view that pre-operative drug reaction could have resulted in patients complaining of uneasiness and breathlessness.
The team also collected the vials of the injection administered on the patients, noted the batch number and handed it over to the drug controller office to get it tested. Dr. Basareddy, District Surgeon and Dr. Ramesh Babu, District Health Officer, were also present.
Meanwhile, Hemakshi, who is admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of VIMS Hospital, is yet to recover, while two others are under observation.
