Transport strike: Buses off the roads in Udupi

April 30, 2015 02:08 pm | Updated 02:08 pm IST - Udupi

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses, private express buses and city buses were off the roads in Udupi district due to the nation-wide strike against the Road Transport and Safety Bill on Thursday, hitting passengers hard.

There were few passengers at the KSRTC Bus Stand in Udupi. Only long-distance KSRTC buses were seen stopping at the KSRTC Bus Terminus for passengers to alight. There were no buses from Udupi or Kundapura KSRTC depots to other destinations.

Even the private express service buses, which operate most buses from Udupi to Mangaluru, Kundapura and Karkala, did not operate, inconveniencing passengers.

At the service bus stand here, the workers of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) blocked some buses coming from Kundapura. However, private taxis were operating, bringing some relief to passengers.

The city buses too were not operating in Udupi and the City Bus Terminus wore a deserted look. But autorickshaws were operating in Udupi.
