Transport corporations incurring losses because of inefficient officers: Minister

‘We are making changes in the prime posts to bring in discipline and efficiency’

October 19, 2013 04:05 pm | Updated 04:05 pm IST - Hassan:

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said road transport corporations in the State are incurring losses because of “inefficient” officials.

“We are making changes in the prime posts to bring in discipline and efficiency,” he told reporters here on Friday. The Minister was here to flag off a procession held as part of Valmiki Jayanti celebrations.

The department would identify inefficient officials and replace them, he said. Some divisions in the State, however, had achieved break-even. “More than profit, the department is interested in serving the public,” he said.

35 buses

Mr. Reddy said the State government had decided to strengthen city bus services in many places, including Hassan. Hassan city would get 35 buses in two months under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, he said. As many as 24 new depots would be set up in the State to strengthen bus service.

To a question, the Minister said the State government was delivering good governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “We have fulfilled 140 of the 160 promises made in the election manifesto. The remaining promises will also be fulfilled soon. One cannot expect a government to do better than this,” he said. To a question on the reported grouse of a few MLAs against the Chief Minister, Mr. Reddy said, “The Chief Minister may not have fulfilled all the demands of MLAs. This, however, does not mean that he is not taking the MLAs into confidence. The legislators also should understand that a Chief Minister cannot fulfil all of their demands,” he said.
