Three students not given gold medals at convocation

April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - DAVANGERE:

Two M.Ed students and one Master of Fine Arts student, who had come along with their family members to receive gold medals, faced an embarrassing situation at the second annual convocation of the Davangere University held at the Shivagangotri campus at Tolahunse village here.

Though in the list, these three candidates were eligible for gold medals by the university, the authorities concerned informed the students in the last minute that the sponsors of gold medals had backed off. They said would make alternate arrangements to get them the gold medals.

Shocked by the information given by university authorities, the parents and relatives of the students said that they could have avoided the embarrassing situation by informing the students and their parents in advance. This clearly indicates the negligent attitude of the university authorities, they said.

R. Jayaprakash of the economics department secured a total of four gold medals, while Nigar Sultan of the English department, N. Ashwini of the Kannada department and M.B. Shwetha of commerce stood at second place with three gold medals each.

S. Supriya of chemistry department, M.J. Vijayashri of mathematics department and B.M. Bindushri of physics department got 2 each gold medals.

Absence

Though Davangere University Vice-chancellor Kaliwal had announced that Governor Vajubhai Vala and Higher Education Minister R.V. Deshpande would attend the convocation, both the guests did not turn up citing different reasons.
