Two farmers allegedly committed suicide in Tumakuru district on Tuesday.
While one is said to have consumed poison, the other was found hanging from a tree. The Huliyurdurga police said Anil (19), resident of Doddakoppalu in Kunigal taluk, who along with his father, had incurred a loss of Rs. 1 lakh. Added to this was an outstanding loan of Rs. 4.5 lakh.
The other farmer Rangaswamy (50) from Narayanakere village in the taluk, was cultivating ragi on a land that he had taken on lease.
Venkappa Harijan (48) from Uppara Nandihal village in Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district, who consumed pesticide three days ago, died on Tuesday. According to villagers, the victim had taken a loan of Rs. 2 lakh.
In Chitradurga district, Giriyappa (65), a resident of Kondlahalli village was found hanging on Monday morning. According to sources, he had 13 acres of land and had borrowed about Rs. 8 lakh from a nationalised bank and co-operative banks.
