Three killed in road accident

Three persons were killed on the spot and one was seriously injured in a head-on collision between an autorickshaw and a private bus near Belagumba on the outskirts of Tumakuru city on Sunday.

The police said that the deceased have been identified as Shadat Khan, 24, the autorickshaw driver from Sadashivanagar, Tumakuru; Maruthi, 15, a Class 9 student of Hanumanthapura, Tumakuru; and Lohith Kumar, 19, of Hanumanthapura, Tumakuru. Vasanthakumar sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Tumakuru district government hospital. All the deceased were in the autorickshaw.

The autorickshaw that was coming to Tumakuru from Devarayanadurga collided with a private bus going towards Urdigere at a curve at 4.30 p.m. near Kempegowda College near Belagumba on the outskirts of Tumakuru. As a result the three who were in the autorickshaw including the autorickshaw driver died on the spot and another passenger sustained serious injuries.

The drivers of both vehicles could not see the vehicle coming from the opposite side owing to the curve and collided with each other.

A case has been registered at Kyatsandra police station.
