Goods, jewellery worth ₹30 lakh recovered from accused

The district police have arrested three people and recovered ₹30 lakh worth of goods and jewellery stolen in the last few years from various parts of the district from them.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, S.N. Siddaramappa, Superintendent of Police, identified the arrested as, Jagdev alias Jagya Kale, 33, Bhima Kale, 34, and Srikant Kale, 24, all from Haranshikare. While Jagdev was wanted in 18 other cases, Bhimu had been involved in 26 criminal cases.

Goonda Act

Mr. Siddaramappa said that besides jewellery and silver items, a car allegedly used in the crimes has also been seized. He said that the police have written to Deputy Commissioner to invoke the Goonda Act against the accused as they had become habitual offenders are were not showing any remorse for their actions. He added that police officials who had helped in detecting the case would be suitably rewarded.

Traffic problem

Later to a question, Mr. Siddaramappa said that the City Corporation would be implementing a project to ease the traffic problem of the city at a cost of around ₹5 crore. “The police had submitted a proposal to the district administration to resolve the traffic problem. Acting on our request, an agency was set up to submit a report on facilities to be added. Based on the report, ₹5 crore would now be spent on improving facilities. These include the installation of new and high-tech signals, construction of footpaths and other such facilities,” he said.

With regard to the construction of police quarters, Mr. Siddaramappa said that the Police Housing Corporation was constructing 175 new two-bedroom quarters in the district. The work had almost come to an end, and soon they would be allotted to the police officials, he said.

Compund wall

Asked about construction of a compound wall for the police quarters opposite the old district hospital, he said that since the City Corporation had demolished the wall for the widening of the road under the Master Plan project, it was the job of Corporation to get the compound wall built.
