The third phase of ‘London Yakshagana Competition 2014’, a three-and-a-half-month long event involving a budget of about Rs. 3.5 crore, will be held in Bangalore next month.
Ganesh N. Bhat Bayar, operations director, Kuntikanamata Ltd., which has organised the competition, said the wild card entry round should have been held in Mysore on August 20 and August 21. Its venue was shifted to Bangalore due to “operational reasons.”
The teams had been informed about it, he said.
As many as 43 teams participated in the first phase, which is the selection round for amateur troupes. As many as 54 teams participated in the second phase, which is the competition round for professionals who made direct entry, and amateurs. Twelve teams will participate in the third phase, which is the wild card entry round.
He said the wild card entry round, quarter final, semi final and final competitions would be conducted in Bangalore next month. The dates had been fixed tentatively from September 14 to September 22.
The shows up to wild card entry round are free for viewers. Quarter final, semi final and final competitions are not free. Its proceeds will go to a cancer foundation. The winning team would take away Rs. 10 lakh and the runner-up Rs. 5 lakh.
In the final competition, two teams, each from ‘tenku thittu’ and ‘badagu thittu’ schools of Yakshagana, would be selected. These two teams would present 10 shows in London in October. These shows would not be competition shows.
