There is no anti-incumbency wave anywhere in the State: CM

‘This is because people are happy with our work as we have walked the talk’

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday maintained that there was no “anti-incumbency wave” anywhere in the state against the ruling Congress.

“It is common to see anti-incumbency factor at the fag end of any government’s term. But though we are coming to the end of our tenure, you cannot see any such anti-incumbency wave in any part of the State. On the other hand, it will not be an exaggeration to say that there is a pro-government wave in the State,” he remarked, while replying to a debate in the Assembly on issues concerning North Karnataka.

“The absence of anti-incumbency wave is due to the fact that we have made honest efforts to implement the promises made by us and walked the talk.”

He said the fact that people were happy with the government was clearly visible with the special legislature session in Belagavi not witnessing too many protests this time, but for that of doctors. He pointed out that generally, special legislature sessions had been witnessing protests by a large number of organisations with respect to their demands. “But this time, there were hardly any major protests, barring that by the doctors for some time. They too withdrew their protest after we convinced them about the honest intentions of the Karnataka Medical Establishments Bill.”

He said the first signs of the pro-government wave gripping the State were visible in the by-elections to Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly constituency which were won by the ruling Congress. Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party, he recalled that its leaders had stated that results of these by-polls will be a political indicator for the next Assembly polls.

He said the BJP’s Mission-150 (of winning 150 Assembly seats of the total 224 in the State) would be reduced to Mission-50. “They are frustrated over losing their political ground and hence they are making all kinds of baseless allegations against us,” he said. He urged the BJP not to be under “an illusion.”
