A theatre park for children named ‘Rangodyana’ will come up on the premises of Rangayana, Shivamogga.

Iqbal Ahmed, director of Rangayana, Shivamogga, has said that the theatre park would be be constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. The present education system was exerting undue pressure on children and curbing their creative instincts. Objective behind the theatre project was to stimulate interest among children towards theatre and thereby facilitate a comprehensive development of their personality.

Amphitheatre

The proposed theatre park would have an amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 1,000. Training programmes for children on various aspects related to theatre, including acting, singing, dance and make-up, would be organised regularly on the premises of Rangodyana.

A museum to create awareness among children about the culture and heritage of Malnad region would be established there. Bullock carts, plough, pickle jars, and wooden and bamboo utensils, which were once part of rural agrarian life in Malnad region, would be displayed in the museum.

A visit to the museum would create awareness among children on the culture and heritage of Malnad region. The theatre park would have two water ponds. Idols of Kindarajogi and other characters that figure in children’s literature in Kannada would be installed. Dramas enacted by children would be staged at the amphitheatre at regular intervals. Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar laid the foundation stone for the theatre park here on Monday.

K.B. Prasanna Kumar, Shivamogga MLA, was present.
