A three-day cultural event was inaugurated in Bidar on Sunday as part of Basava Jayanti celebrations. Religious leaders, academicians, and community leaders will discuss various issues related to Basaveshwara’s ideology. Successful leaders in business would be felicitated and cultural troupes will perform. Sri Basavalinga Pattaddevaru, seer of the Bhalki Hiremath, observed that the spirit of Basava Jayanti should extend, following the ideals preached by the 12th century leader. “What matters is not how grand was our event. What is important is that how much of his principles we follow in our daily life,” he said. He asked young people to read about the cultural revolution led by Basaveshwara and other Sharanas in Basava Kalyan. “Basavanna and his contemporaries wrote in a language that is simple enough for everyone to understand. That is what makes him distinct from other philosophers who wrote in a complex language,” he said.
Babu Wali, president, reception committee, took exception to the socio-economic survey being conducted by the State government. He said it would lead to division of the society. He asked community leaders to organise Basava Jayanti in all villages and towns.
