Tension prevailed at the Yermarus Thermal Power Station in Raichur on Wednesday after three members from families that lost land to the power station climbed a high tension electricity supply tower at the power station demanding jobs.

Managing Director, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), G. Kumar Naik, was talking to reporters inside the office of the power station when the incident occurred.

Raghavendra Sagar, Raghavendra and Timmappa, all from Chickasugur village in Raichur taluk, said that the officials were negligent in attending to their demands. Meanwhile, the security guards managed to bring them all down from the tower.

The families of all these three men have lost around three-four acres of land each to the power station.

However, the officials have not considered their applications despite their repeated appeals, they said.

“We have lost our fertile land to the project. Unfortunately, we have not been given jobs as promised by the officials during the land acquisition process,” Raghavendra told reporters.

Meanwhile, officials took them into the office to discuss the issue and find a solution.
