An appeal by S.R. Niranjana, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Gulbarga University, to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Raichur, S. Sasikanth Senthil, seeking financial assistance for developing Information Technology infrastructure at the university’s Raichur postgraduate (PG) centre did not go in vain.

Within 20 days of the written memorandum, Regional Commissioner and secretary of the Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board Amlan Aditya Biswas called tenders for procuring equipment and materials required for developing IT infrastructure at the centre.

The VC had sought Rs. 1.42 crore, including Rs. 55.9 lakh to establish a digital library and e-learning and resource centre, Rs. 55.9 lakh for library furniture and accessories, Rs. 40.75 lakh for modernising the seminar hall-cum-auditorium, and Rs. 13 lakh for building a robust campus network to connect all departments, hostels, library, computer centres and administrative units for sharing information.

Of the four tenders called, two with an estimated cost of Rs. 2.16 lakh and Rs. 5.85 lakh are exclusively for supplying various equipment and materials for upgrading the library and the hall at the centre.

The other two, one with an estimated cost of Rs. 15.89 lakh, and the other with Rs. 1.75 crore, have been called for supplying equipment and material for Kendriya Vidyalaya, District Institutes for Education and Training, Block Resource Centres, Yadgir district library and smart library and seminar room at the Raichur postgraduate centre.

“We are happy that both the Deputy Commissioner and the Regional Commissioner quickly responded to our appeal. The tender details have reflected more than 90 percent of the requirements we had sought. We are thankful to both the officers,” Venkatesh Patil, academic council member of the university, told The Hindu .
