Taking home Rs. 1 lakh a month

November 21, 2014 11:55 am | Updated 11:55 am IST - BENGALURU:

This young woman farmer from Doddanahalli of Arsikere taluk in Hassan district seems unassuming at first glance. But, you’ll think twice when you hear she earns Rs. 1 lakh a month from organic dairy farming.

C.B. Shashikala, who received the best taluk-level youth woman farmer award at the Krishi Mela on Thursday, has 25 cows which yield 250 litres of milk a day. “As it is purely organic milk, I sell it at Rs. 30 a litre as against the normal milk priced at Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 a litre in our village,” she points out. She prepares the organic feed for her cattle.

On her four-and-a-half acres of land, she has set up a biogas unit and also cultivates mango, coconut, guava and sapota.
