Take measures to provide drinking water, officials told

May 29, 2013 10:33 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:21 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday fixed the responsibility of ensuring proper drinking water supply to Deputy Commissioners of districts and Chief Executive Officers of zilla panchayats.

Briefing presspersons after a two-day meeting with the DCs, CEOs and heads of various departments, the Chief Minister told the bureaucrats: “The DCs and CEOs have been given adequate funds to initiate measures to provide drinking water. They have been authorised to take appropriate measures to provide drinking water.”

Pointing out that 73 of the 176 taluks in the State have reeled under drought for the last three years, he asked the bureaucrats to be ready with a contingency plan.

He instructed officials to take up cultivation of fodder in the farms belonging to agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry departments in a bid to set up a fodder bank.

He also called for taking steps for purification of water in the areas where groundwater had fluoride contents.
