South Western Railway (SWR) has registered the highest ever originating freight loading in the last decade by loading 44.2 Million Tonnes (MT) of freight in the financial year 2016-17.
Speaking at the 62nd Railway Week Celebrations of the South Western Railway here on Monday evening, A.K. Gupta, General Manager, SWR, said the zone had also registered a growth of 5% in freight loading and Hubballi Division had secured the seventh rank in the Indian Railways in freight loading.
Mr. Gupta said that the zone had registered a growth of 2% in passenger earnings by carrying 193 million passengers during 2016-17 and its punctuality was 97%, the third best in the Indian Railways. He said that the zone had managed to commission 210 km of new line during the fiscal year, which was a record of sorts in the construction category. The zone had also completed electrification of 257 km of railway line.
He said keeping in mind the achievement in freight loading, the zone’s freight loading target for 2017-18 had been fixed at 46.5 MT. S.K Albela, Chief Personnel Officer, SWR, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer Srinivasaraghavan and others were present.
Many awarded
The General Manager presented individual awards to 21 gazetted officers, 130 personnel, Woman of the Year Award to three women employees, eight group awards to 49 employees, and efficiency shields in 19 categories. Hubballi Division bagged the Overall Efficiency Shield with efficiency shields in Accounts, Engineering, Mechanical, Operating, Personnel and Security Departments apart from the Inter-Divisional Rajbhasha Rolling Shield. The Mysuru Division won the Medical Efficiency Shield and Inter-Divisional Safety Shield, while Bengaluru Division bagged efficiency shields in Commercial, Electrical and Signal and Telecommunication Departments.
The General Stores Department of Hubballi won the Stores Efficiency Shield and Mysuru workshop won Workshop Efficiency Shield. The other awards were: Best performing Construction Unit – Deputy Chief Engineer/West Bangalore Cantonment; Best Maintained Running Room – Subramaniya Road of Mysuru Division; Best Maintained station (Major) – Hubballi station of Hubballi Division; Best Maintained station (Minor) – Kadur station of Mysuru Division; Best Maintained Rake - Rake of Train No.12627/28 Bengaluru-New Delhi-Bengaluru Express.
