The Adi Jagadguru Shivaratreeshwara Shivayogi’s Suttur Jatra Mahotsava will commence on January 13 in Nanjangud taluk in Mysuru district. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar will inaugurate the six-day annual fair.

Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil will inaugurate an information centre at Suttur Mutt and Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree will inaugurate competitions and cultural programmes during the annual fair.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, convener of JSS Jatra Mahotsava Samiti S.M. Jambakeshwar said that apart from seers of various mutts, vice-president of the Republic of Mauritius Barlen Vyapoory, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Ministers from Union and State Cabinets and actors would participate in the programmes.

The mahotsava will include religious meets, mass marriages, a Krishi Mela, rural sports competitions, kite flying, wrestling competitions and a cattle fair. More than 800 teams from across the State will participate in the Bhajan Mela.

Mr. Jambakeshwara said that JSS Mahavidyapeetha has carved a niche for itself in the field of education by establishing over 300 institutions spread across the world. Around 60,000 students are pursuing their education in JSS Mahavidyapeetha. The mutt also has extended free education to 4,000 students, of which nearly 80 % of students are from North Karnataka region, he added. The Krishi Mela will have on display 150 varieties of crops grown in just 3 acres of land.
