The Mysuru City Corporation has been given time till May 18 to complete the survey to identify houses without toilets for implementing the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
During the survey that was launched on May 7, as many as 484 households without toilets have been identified in the MCC limits. It implies that open defecation is still prevalent in the city. The families of these households have submitted applications to the MCC seeking funds under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan for constructing toilets. One of the prime objectives of the abhiyaan is to put an end to open defecation and manual scavenging besides using scientific method to manage solid waste, said MCC authorities. MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath told The Hindu on Wednesday that the survey will continue till May 18.People who do not have toilets in their houses can submit applications at the helpdesks in the zonal offices of the MCC, he added.
After the survey, the data will be compiled and sent to the Centre seeking directions to implement the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
