Super-speciality hospital proposed in Dharwad

The State government has proposed a super-speciality medical institute for Dharwad, district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has said.

Delivering the Independence Day message here on Saturday, Mr. Rao said the State government had identified 200 acres belonging to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board at Mummaigatti village on the outskirts of the city for the purpose. A proposal had been submitted to the Union government through the Directorate of Medical Education, Mr. Rao said.

The district administration had also identified 600 acres in the same village for setting up Indian Institute of Technology if the government selects Dharwad to set up the institute. Similarly, the district administration had provided 61 acres in Tadasinakoppa village to set up Indian Institute of Information Technology, Mr. Rao said.

Referring to urban infrastructure development in the district, the Minister said the government had sanctioned Rs. 100 crore as grants under the Chief Minister’s Nagarothana Project for Dharwad, of which Rs. 72 crore had been released. The government had also released Rs. 13 crore from the Rs. 100 crore special grants in the third phase. The government had distributed Rs. 25 crore to five urban bodies in the district. The works on 24x7 drinking water supply project in the twin cities were under progress in 18 wards and similar works had been commenced in 41 wards recently, Mr. Rao added.

Mr. Rao received guard of honour from the police, NCC cadets and others and honoured freedom fighters. Schoolchildren presented a colourful dance performance.
