Revenue and district in-charge Minister Kagodu Thimmappa has directed the officials of the Department of Industries and Commerce and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board to submit a report to him in a week on the measures to be taken to upgrade amenities in industrial estates in the district.

He was speaking at a programme held on the premises of Shivamogga District Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SDCCI) here on Sunday as part of “Road Show for Vendor Development and Investors Summit 2017” that will be held in Bengaluru on November 23 and 24.

Entrepreneurs, who spoke in the programme, including Hanumanthe Gowda, president of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association, urged for repair of the roads that connect the industrial estates in Machenahalli, Kallur-Mandli, Sagar Road in the district. They also pressed for uninterrupted power supply for the industrial estates during summer. Responding to this, Mr. Thimmappa said the State government will take up the work of upgrading the amenities at industrial estates in the district and thereby attract industrial investment.

Mr. Thimmappa urged the entrepreneurs to evince interest to set up industries in mofussil centres.

The impressive growth achieved by the automobile components, foundry, and alloy casting industries in the district should be highlighted in the forthcoming Vendor Development and Investors Summit and thereby investment should be attracted for these sectors in the district, he said.

On the request from the small scale industries for reduction of the stamp duty fee charged for the industrialists for registration of the sites in industrial estates allotted to them, Mr. Thimmappa said he will apprise the government in this regard. He said the practice of sub-leasing of the sites allotted in industrial estates developed by the government should be avoided.

Addressing the gathering, D.M. Shankarappa, president of SDCCI, urged the State government to commence the work on developing the industrial estate in Sogane on the outskirts of the city. The State government owns 600 acres of land there.

The medium and large scale industries can be accommodated in Sogane, he said.

Mr. Shankarappa also urged for completion of the work of widening Tumkur-Shivamogga stretch of National Highway 206 into a four-lane soon. He said the completion of the work will reduce the time required to travel between Shivamogga and Bengaluru.

H.R. Rajappa, Joint Director of District Industries Centre, was present. on the occasion
