The K.R. Pet police, who are investigating the murder case of high school student L. Shashank, on Monday arrested M.S. Dixit, 18, for allegedly murdering the boy apart from burgling his house. The accused is a resident of Guthalu colony in Mandya and a polytechnic student in K.R. Pet. According to the police, he is a habitual cricket betting organiser.

The police said Dixit had to pay some amount to his clients and since he was short of money, he burgled Shashank’s house. However, he was caught red-handed by the victim. Later, the accused forcibly took the victim to an isolated area near the Government Employees’ Layout on May 15 and killed him. “Dixit first strangulated Shashank and later smothered him. Later, he stole some silver ornaments and duplicate gold items from his house,” Savitha, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mandya, told The Hindu .
