‘Steps taken to fill 1,298 posts of lecturers’

Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande has said that notification has been issued to fill 1,298 vacant posts of lecturers in the State and steps will be taken to fill them soon.

Speaking after laying foundation stones for different buildings on the Davangere University premises here on Sunday, he said that another 864 posts of lecturers would be filled later.

“There are complaints that the students from the State are not getting jobs in industries owing to lack of skills. The government is planning to hold discussions with industry owners to know the skills required by them and include it in the syllabus. .”

The government is planning to introduce tele-education to ensure that the quality of education was improved and students were prepared to face new challenges. Initially, the system would be introduced in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region and it would be extended to other parts of the State depending on its success, he added.

Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge H. Anjaneya said that orders had been issued to release of Rs. 50 lakh for setting up a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Study Centre on the Davangere University premises.

Minister for Horticulture Shamnur Shivshankarappa and Davangere University Vice-Chancellor B.B. Kaliwal were present.
