May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Hassan:

The Hassan district administration has sought information from the public on scanning centres and nursing homes that encourage gender detection tests.

Identity of those sharing credible information will be kept secret and they will rewarded with Rs. 1 lakh in cash, the district administration has announced.

The objective is to curb female foeticide and infanticide. Additional Deputy Commissioner H.N. Gopal Krishna, who chaired a meeting of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act committee, said the sex ratio in Hassan was 973 females for 1,000 males.

“The district administration should initiate strong measures to check the decline in the number of female newborns. We will keep the identity of those sharing the information about scanning centres and nursing homes that are engaged in illegal practice of conducting sex detection tests. Those providing such information will also be rewarded with cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh,” he said.
