State govt. to provide police security to Deepika Padukone, family

The State government has decided to provide police security to actor Deepika Padukone and her family after a fringe groups have threatened her with physical harm for her title role in Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati .

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy told The Hindu on Monday that he would write to the State DG-IGP to give protection to the actor and her family in the State.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar has strongly condemned the “anti-constitutional and intolerant” threats by BJP leaders against the makers of the film and Deepika Padukone. In a statement, he urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to write to the Centre to provide adequate security to the film star. He also requested the State Home Minister to provide sufficient police protection during her visit to the State.
