Appachu Ranjan, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, in Hassan on Friday said the State government was planning to introduce 2 per cent reservation for sportspersons in government jobs.
The Minister told presspersons on Friday that a Bill would be brought in to amend recruitment rules . A comprehensive sports policy too was in the pipeline.
Honour for Girisha
He said the government would honour H.N. Girisha, who bagged a silver medal at the Paralympic Games, with a purse of Rs. 20 lakh. However, Mr. Ranjan said the government did not have any provision to offer him a job. “The existing rules do not allow us to offer him a job,” he said.
Training
He said his department was planning to introduce a system to train sportspersons selected for events such as the Olympics.
“In China, sportspersons are trained for three years ahead of such events. They win more medals because of such efforts. I want to bring in a similar system here,” he said.
The government planned to set up sports schools in all districts to identify talented children and train them.
