State president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prahlad Joshi dared Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to implement the proposed Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2014 to control the maths and other religious institutions on the pretext of mismanagement.

After seeking the blessings of seer of Siddaganga math, Dr. Shivakumara Swami, along with Leader of Opposition, Jagadish Shettar, former ministers, R. Ashok, V. Somanna here on Wednesday, Mr.Joshi said to reporters, “I will challenge Siddaramaiah, that if he has the guts let him implement the proposed law on controlling the maths and religious institutions.”

Mr. Joshi said that Shivakumara Swami had said to them that it was shocking to know that by bringing the law, the government is planning to control the maths and said that such laws were not there even during the British rule.

He alleged that the state government is conspiring to control the maths in the name of the proposed law and hence they would meet the seers of all the maths in the state including, Nirmalananda Swami of Adhichunchungiri math, Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur math, Murugarajendra Swami of Muruga math, Madara Chennaiah Swami within 10 days and then chalk out the agitation program against the proposed law.

Mr. Joshi wondered whether Siddaramaiah is trying to appease Chairperson of All India Congress Committee, Sonia Gandhi by bringing this law in order to protect himself from the charges faced in connection with Arkavathi land denotification and other issues.

By tabling the Bill in the Lower House, the government is trying to divert the attention of the people, he alleged.

He alleged that the government is blackmailing the seers of the maths by bringing this law Leader of Opposition, Jagadish Shettar, alleged that the government did not give information about proposed law on controlling the maths in the meeting of Business Advisory Committee which will be headed by the Speaker before placing the Bill in the Lower House.

He questioned why only maths and Hindu religious institutions are brought under the law. He said the government could have brought all the religious institutions including those of Christians, Muslims under the law.

He demanded Siddaramaiah and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, T. B. Jayachandra to give an official statement regarding the proposed law.

He said the government has to take a clear stand regarding the proposed law.

Former Home Minister, R. Ashok, former ministers, V. Somanna, S. Shivanna and others were present.
