Stage set for State Film Awards today

The stage is set for the State Film Awards function on the Maharaja College grounds here Saturday. The venue has been decked up with colourful artworks to bring alive the event which is being hosted by the City of Palaces after a gap of 23 years.

With Mysuru being the home constituency of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who will be presenting the awards at 6 p.m., special attention has been given to put up an impressive show.

The Department of Information and Public Relations, which is holding the event, has made arrangements for at least 25,000 people to watch the event.

A total of 60 awards will be presented for the year 2012 and 2013, and there will be performances in between the presentation of awards to make it a complete film event packed with entertainment.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards for 2012 will be presented to M. Bhaktavatsala (Dr. Rajkumar Award); C. Dattaraj (Puttanna Kanagal Award) and actor Rajesh (Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award). Likewise, the awardees for 2013 are actor Srinath (Dr. Rajkumar award); P.H. Vishwanath (Puttanna Kanagal Award) and K.V. Gupta (Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award).

A first

For the first time, the Kannada State Film Literature Annual Awards will also be presented. The awardees are — Ganesh Kasargod for Chadurida Chitragalu (2011); P.R. Ramdas Naidu for Vishwa Cinema Maatu Baruba Tanaka (2012), and R. Srinath for Maadurya Sarvabouma Dr. P.B. Srinivas — Naadayogiya Soonadayana (2013).
