For Sriram Mishra the day starts as early as 5 a.m. To supplement his family income, he works as a newspaper delivery boy after which he attends school. He lost his father at a very young age, and his mother, Hemalatha H.R., ekes out a living by working as a tailor.
Sriram has done both his school and mother proud by securing 91.05% in the SSLC exam. He got 124 out of 125 in Kannada. He lives at Thyamagondlu village in Nelamangala taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, and studies at the Government Junior College, Thyamagondlu.
Substantial support
To support his mother, he started working as a newspaper boy, and on holidays, he works in a stationery shop in his village. “I earn ₹600 a month by delivering newspapers. It is a substantial financial support for my family,” he said.
Sriram aspires to become a mathematician. “My maths teacher Sucheta S.S. is my inspiration,” he said.
An avid reader, he enjoys books on general knowledge, Kannada literature, and the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and other epics. Kuvempu and G.S. Shivarudrappa are his favourite writers. “My father used to bring lots of books for me to read, I have continued that habit.”
“I studied for around 3 hours every day from October. I was also very attentive in the class. This helped me to grasp the subjects,” he added.
