The annual Sri Kanaka Durgamma ‘sidi’ was celebrated here on Tuesday.

Thousands of devotees from Ballari city and surrounding places, including neighbouring districts of Anantapur and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh, witnessed the ‘sidi’, an idol, symbolising evil, being hanged to a pole tied to a cart pulled by three pairs of oxen, which went round the temple thrice.

There was a rush of devotees right from morning to the ancient temple to have a darshan of Sri Kanaka Durgamma, the principal deity, which was decorated with gold and silver ornaments and flowers.

The vehicular traffic on the roads leading to Durgamma Temple was diverted as the junction around it was crowded. As a result, there was traffic jam at a couple of places for over two hours.
