To spread the message of the importance of protecting the planet, the Hassan City Municipal Council has installed sculptures created by a team of artists at traffic joints on B.M. Road. The sculptures were inaugurated by H.S. Prakash, the MLA for Hassan, on Monday.

The team of six artists, led by B.G. Gowrishankar, worked for over 40 days to create the three pieces of art. They have been placed at N.R. Circle and near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Mr. Gowrishankar, a native of Kalaburagi, had participated in a summer camp organised by the Hassan CMC for children in April. He taught the participants clay modelling.

Noting his talent, the CMC approached him to create sculptures on the theme of environment conservation so they could be placed at prime traffic joints.

“I was asked to create designs related to earth and nature conservation. The sculpture placed at N.R. Circle focusses on the importance of conservation of nature for the future generation. Children have been portrayed in the work so that the younger generation gets the message. In another sculpture, we have shown global warming,” Mr. Gowrishankar said. Besides these two, the team has also created a sculpture to spread the message on the importance of yoga.

Hassan CMC president H.S. Anil Kumar told reporters that the council spent about ₹10 lakh on the sculptures. “I appreciate the work of the highly talented artists. Their sculptures have added value to the city,” he said.

The other members of the team of artists were Raju, Santhosh, Revanasidda, Basavaraj Betageri, and Hanumanth.
