The annual Crime Prevention Month was launched by the City Police here on Monday will focus on creating awareness on crimes against women and children.

Inaugurating the Crime Prevention Month at a programme held in front of Balarama Gate of Mysore Palace here, Mayor R. Lingappa said sexual assaults on children, which are being reported with sickening regularity in the State, should stop and appealed to the public to co-operate with the police in its efforts.

Krishnaraja Assembly constituency MLA M.K. Somashekar, who was also present on the occasion, called upon women to be wary of strangers engaging them in sweet talk. "It is not that sexual assaults on women were not taking place earlier. Of late, it is a welcome development that women are coming forward to lodge complaints against the crime. Also, media is throwing more light of sexual assaults against women", he said.

He welcomed the series of measures taken by the City Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem to arrest crime rate in the City.
