Hyderabad-Karnataka and parts of Bombay-Karnataka continued to be under a severe spell of heatwave, with rain in some pockets of Bombay-Karnataka region proving to be no respite.
According to the observations recorded by the Met Department at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, both Kalaburagi and Bidar recorded an identical maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius in the previous 24 hours — the highest in the State. In Bidar, this was a jump of 5 degrees from the same day last year. In Kalaburagi, the increase was 3 degrees Celsius.
According to sources in the Met Department, the maximum temperature was above normal in a majority of areas in Hyderabad-Karnataka and Bombay-Karnataka regions, and in a few places in coastal and south interior Karnataka. Kundagol in Dharwad district, Bagalkot, and Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru district received rain of 1 cm each. Gadag recorded rainfall of 4 mm. Meanwhile, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari recorded an identical maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, while it was 40 degrees Celsius in Vijayapura and Bagalkot. Gadag recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, Dharwad, Belagavi Airport and Belagavi City recorded a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius.
Oppressive nights
Night temperatures too continued to be oppressive, with Bidar recording the State’s highest minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, and Kalaburagi and Raichur recording an identical minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.
On the same day last year, it was 24 degrees Celsius in both Bidar and Raichur. Vijayapura recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Madikeri recorded the State’s lowest minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.
