Residents of Girija slum here took out a rally and staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday, seeking fulfilment of their various demands.

The protesters urged the State government to declare their locality as a slum area.

They said that their locality was lacking basic facilities such as drinking water, drainage system, streetlights and roads.

They raised slogans against the State government and urged the district administration to provide them with ration cards, title deeds and other facilities meant for slum-dwellers under developmental programmes.The protestors said that they would continue the agitation till their demands were met.

The protest had been organised by the Karnataka Kolegeri Nivasigala Samyukta Sanghatane.
