President of the Akshaya Patra Foundation Madhu Pandita Das has said that six State governments have approached the foundation to provide midday meals in their respective States.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday after the inauguration of the foundation’s renovated kitchen, he said the States included Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Uttarakhand. He said the foundation was considering the proposals one by one. At present, the foundation, with the support of State governments and corporate bodies, provided midday meals to 15 lakh students in nine States. In Karnataka, of the 60 lakh students who were provided midday meals, 5 lakh children were covered by the foundation.
Mr. Das said the foundation followed an urban feeding model where a centralised kitchen reached out to students in a 40-km radius.
