Six legislators are among 100 contestants in Kolar district

Among the 100 candidates in the fray in the six Assembly constituencies in Kolar district, four are former MLAs and five are MLAs.

And, there is one MLC, who was an MLA earlier, in the race taking the number of legislators contesting in these elections to six.

R. Varthur Prakash (Kolar), S.N. Krishnaiah Setty (Malur), G.K. Venkatashiva Reddy (Srinivaspur), V. Amaresh (Mulbagal-SC) and M. Narayanaswamy (Bangarpet-SC) are the MLAs who are seeking re-election.

Nazir Ahmad, MLC and a former MLA, is the Congress nominee for the Kolar seat.

Only Kolar Gold Fields (SC) representative Y. Sampangi is not contesting in the elections as he was denied ticket by the BJP as he is facing several charges.

But his mother, Y. Ramakka, is contesting on BJP ticket there. While Mr. Varthur Prakash, and Mr. Krishnaiah Setty are contesting as Independents, the others are in the fray on Congress, Janata Dal (Secular) and BJP ticket.

K.R. Ramesh Kumar (Srinivaspur, Congress), K. Srinivasa Gowda (Kolar, Janata Dal-Secular), S. Rajendran (KGF, Republican Party of India) and M. Bhaktavatsalam (KGF, Janata Dal-Secular) are the former legislators in the contest.

Mr. Nazir Ahmad is pitted against Mr. Varthur Prakash and Mr. Srinivasa Gowda in Kolar Assembly constituency.
