Protesting against the setting up of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and seeking its abolition, members of BJP’s affiliated organisations launched a signature campaign here on Wednesday.

Staging a protest in front of the Mini-Vidhana Soudha in Hubballi members of the Hubballi-Dharwad Central Unit of the BJP Yuva Morcha alleged that the main objective of setting up the ACB was to weaken the Lokayukta to safeguard corrupt ministers in the Congress government.

Raising slogans against the government, the protesters appealed to the people to extend support to the agitation by taking part in the signature campaign.

Launching the signature campaign, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi condemned the move to set up the ACB. They alleged that ever since the Congress government came to power, several scams had been unearthed and the government had failed in every front. They appealed to the people of the State to raise their voice for the sake of saving the Lokayukta.

BJP leaders Mallikarjun Savakar, Mahesh Tenginakai, Nagesh Kalburgi, and Viresh Sangalad led the signature campaign.

In Belagavi, the Belagavi North Assembly constituency unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha launched the campaign. The women activists opened a make-shift counter at Hutatma Chowk for the purpose.
