SI, constable held on charge of taking bribe

The Lokayukta police on Thursday arrested a sub-inspector and a constable attached to the Excise Enforcement and Lottery Prohibition wing of the Excise Department for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a man whose three relatives were booked for illegally stocking illicit toddy at Baddepalli village in the district.

The Lokayukta police, led by Superintendent of Police G. Hanumesh, arrested police constable Saibanna, while he was accepting the bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the man, Ramesh Pawar, at a hotel here. Later, the sub-inspector Vijayakumar was arrested based on information provided by Saibanna that he was acting on instructions from Vijayakumar to accept the bribe. The police officials were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
